Lyrics

In a Different Life

I got a call about a week ago,
From a girl I thought I didn't know.
She said she'd seen me load a gun and jump in my car,
And that she knew just what I used it for.

I said, "Bitch, you must be crazy. Do you know who I am?
I'll be damned if I'll let you bring me down."
"Then shut up," she said, "and hit the bar downtown,
If you want to know exactly what I'm talkin' 'bout."

I swear I recognize that voice.
I swear I know that kind of vice.
I swear that girl has played me before,
In a different life.

Sittin' quiet in that crowded bar,
Wonderin' 'bout the girl I was waitin' on.
Palms all sweaty, knot in my throat,
Finger feeling up the 45 in my coat.

Then BAM! The door flew open and the wind rushed in.
One glance and I jumped right out of my skin.
She was a killer!
She was a sinner!
Doomed from the moment that that girl walked in.

She reaches in her coat,
And I reach into mine.
And the crowd hits the floor,
As the shots go flying.

Lying bloody, full of lead,
A single verse away from being dead.
She came and stood right in my dying light,
And my eyes went wide.

"I swear I know you," said my final glare,
"But I just can't recall from when or where."
She said, "Was I your sister? Was I your friend,
Or maybe just some kind of twist at the end?"
